Produktbeschreibung
Optimization-based methods provide a tremendous potential to accelerate and improve conceptual process design. However, the highly nonlinear mathematical models required for an accurate description of azeotropic mixtures and the inherent limitations for different separation principles complicate the application severely. The current thesis presents different approaches to overcome these limitations. For the first time, the different concepts of distillation boundaries and the implications on (pinch-based) shortcut calculations are analyzed. An efficient optimization-based process design with conceptual process models is facilitated by means of problem decomposition and an external calculation of phase equilibrium and physical properties. The quality of the solution and the range of application are further extended by means of a novel hybrid optimization approach. Various case studies illustrate the application of the novel approaches and highlight their benefits.
